Playing at 40 frames per second on Apex Legends using 1660ti with low settings is tough. Need advice!
This morning my performance on Apex Legends is only 40 to 50 fps at low settings. I’m using an ASUS laptop with a Ryzen 7 3750H, a 1660 Ti Max Q, and 16 GB RAM in dual channel. I used to get smooth 70 or 80 fps on lower settings, but it’s been declining lately and now drops to 40 fps, which is really frustrating. Can someone help me?
Check if the laptop is connected, confirm it's using the dedicated GPU instead of IGPU, and monitor the temperatures.
If that's the GPU temperature, it's probably the main problem. Most NVIDIA GPUs begin throttling around 85°C by default. Try cleaning the fans slightly and consider using a cooling pad. You might also install MSI Afterburner, adjust the fan curve more aggressively, and apply some undervolting.
Mobile GPUs tend to have tighter thermal limits compared to desktops since elevated temperatures impact the whole setup more significantly.
It used to be okay just a day ago, but now it feels like everything is turning into potatoes. I believe this isn't just because of the temperature. Even before the GPU reaches 80%, the frame rate is already quite low. It doesn’t seem like the performance drops more as the temperature climbs.
They're really excited, so maybe I should work on improving things a bit.
This pattern continues as temperatures rise, causing increased thermal throttling. The system will reduce performance until temperatures stabilize within safe limits.
