Playing at 15 fps in Fallout 4's lowest settings on a decent rig
On average, my frame rate stays between 10 and 15 fps in Fo4. In smaller rooms it hovers around 20 fps (after beta), drops to about 10 fps in the countryside, and I manage more than 6 fps in urban settings—though the beta still adds a few frames occasionally. I also face frequent 1 fps drops. Many players report similar issues, but this feels especially frustrating. Input lag and slow weapon hotkeys are also problematic. I've tried numerous workarounds: texture tweaks, updated drivers, higher CPU priority, turned off shadows, set lowest settings, even used a fix via Steam's FPS counter. Still, I can't reach 50 fps after launching the game. My system isn’t the issue—my CPU usage is only about 40% during play, and my GPU isn’t overloaded either. Load times remain poor, even with an SSD, though there’s a symbolic link from the SSD to Steam on an HDD. I’ve played Skyrim on the same rig and it runs smoothly. I’m hoping someone else has encountered similar problems or knows how to fix this. I was looking for answers before upgrading, but now I’m unsure if my setup is the problem or just a symptom of something deeper.
It seems your processor is extremely underpowered. Perhaps that's the cause. The rest of your setup still works well.
Increase your configuration for better performance. The GPUs can help ease CPU strain. These storage drives aren’t great, but it shouldn’t be too severe. Remove and reinstall all drivers fully. Your system should run smoothly at around medium to high 60 frames per second.
Ya is doubt the CPU would drag it down to this poor Performance, but its very weak and maybe FO4 want a good CPU more than other Games.
Verify your driver configurations to ensure you're not relying on them to automatically enable features like AA on each game. Check the NVidia control panel for options such as "3D graphics settings."
