A Frenchman confronted another player who had taken his 'Counter-Strike' avatar, using a kitchen knife to stab him in the chest. The incident highlights how actions in the virtual world can have real-world consequences. Julien Barreaux spent six months tracking down the person responsible for the virtual attack and eventually tracked them down in Cambrai, near Paris. He used a genuine kitchen knife to attack the man, who was only slightly injured. Barreaux was quickly apprehended and faces two years in prison, along with anger management treatment. Authorities expressed concern over the potential impact of such behavior on others.

Wasn't it a while since you checked? That story was quite old when it came up.

Games can lead to violence only when the individual is sufficiently unstable to copy the behavior shown in the game.

If they're insane, they'll likely harm others no matter what the situation is.
