New CPUs are compatible with Windows 7. AMD provides complete drivers for Ryzen and Threadripper models. A patch from Microsoft removes the artificial block in Windows Update for newer CPUs: https://github.com/zeffy/wufuc. Information about setting up Windows 7 on a Z370 board is available on forums such as Overclockers and Overclock.net, where users discuss installation challenges, especially with graphics support. Some sources indicate that Gigabyte offers drivers for their Z370 boards: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z37...support-dl Asus and MSI are also rumored to have drivers, though confirmation is needed.

The reality is clear—OEMs can't distribute Windows 7 or 8.x anymore. You're left with no choice but to purchase refurbished units from the 2014/2015 era.

the cd on my motherboard includes some windows 7 drivers but the system runs poorly under normal conditions. i once got it working temporarily, but whenever i let it sit idle it would freeze. the only fix was restarting it without any error alerts or logs. i checked forums and found no one could explain why it froze—only that the chipset didn’t match the os. eventually, i switched to a different chipset that worked better.

I've observed many discussions sharing incorrect details about Windows 7 compatibility with modern hardware. Some seem to believe newer devices automatically mean Windows 10, possibly due to Microsoft's influence. Others might intentionally spread misleading information to discourage people from choosing Windows 7. Your situation could stem from various factors—perhaps using outdated 32-bit drivers instead of the required 64-bit ones. For more details on your motherboard, you can check Gigabyte's support page here: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z37...support-dl

I’m sure I’ll attempt it once more. It’s nice that I don’t have to change the boot media because I still have the original DVD, which means no need for USB 3.x drivers. Thanks!
