Hello, does your PC use electricity from the power cord or the battery when playing games? Should you take the laptop battery out while gaming and keep it connected to the wall, or is leaving it in fine? I'm asking because my HP Z book 17 G3 has a locked bottom case and requires me to unscrew screws on both the battery slot and the motherboard itself. This makes taking the battery away very slow, which worries me if I just want to play games with no power source. If I leave the battery inside while gaming, will it drain down over time?

You don't need to take out the battery. When you plug it in, it takes energy from the power brick. You'll usually see two settings: one for when it's plugged in and another for when it's using just the battery.

So what if the battery gets fully charged to 100% right now, and the PC is still plugged in? Does that mean the battery keeps charging itself even with the PC connected? When I plug my laptop in and the % charge on the battery shows up as 45%, does that just mean the power stored inside the battery stays put, while the computer doesn't draw electricity from the battery at all?

Here are some things to watch out for: Charging isn't fast at first. It takes a lot of energy from the start up until about halfway, then slows down slowly as it gets better and better. Once it hits 100%, the battery only charges very slowly in the background, using just a little bit of power most of the time. Most laptops come with power bricks that work well for both fast charging and still letting the laptop run at full speed. For example, my ASUS Zephyrus G14 had a charger rated for 180W, but it only used about 120W during typical gaming. Another one is my Dell XPS 13. It came with a 65W charger, but according to Notebookcheck's review, it didn't use that much even when playing a game (they said the average usage was just 38 watts). My model uses an i5 processor, so it will definitely use less power than these numbers suggest.
