You'll still need it, though I advise against using a cable because it tends to stop easily.

Consider using an Xbox controller for a smoother experience. Downloading DS4Windows isn’t necessary if you’re on Windows 10/11. It’s normal to feel unsure—just start with the controller and see what works best for you.

I've never played with an Xbox One controller, just a PS4 one, but I didn't run into any problems. Installing DS4 was quite simple.

An Xbox One controller paired with a wireless adapter tends to simplify setup. (Just connect and play)

It's identical for PS4 as well; just remember to pair it via Bluetooth, which requires about two minutes of holding the PS button and sharing.

I'm referring to x1 in Steam but have a wired Xbox One controller, so you'll need a Bluetooth or wireless adapter.

Consider buying a mini USB to USB cable or a micro USB to USB adapter. If you need a specific type like Mini D to USB, check if that’s available in your region. Since the manual didn’t specify, look for compatible options online.

Get a Bluetooth adapter, connect your PS4 controller. Launch Steam Big Picture, navigate to settings, then controller settings, enabling PS4 Configurator support. Switch the controller on and off, and voilà—it functions smoothly across all titles. For non-Steam games, simply add them to Steam and you're good to go. You can customize each game as needed, or use it as a regular controller. If you lack a Bluetooth adapter, a USB cable works just fine. I use both methods and everything operates well. Edit: DS4Windows is also quite powerful, even surpassing the Steam Configurator approach. It eliminates the need to add games to Steam and lets you play UWP titles directly. I favor the Steam method for better control and button re-binding options, but I switch to DS4Windows when issues arise.
