CIG has stopped providing estimates or release timelines unless they are completely confident the game is ready for launch. It’s best to monitor the RSI website and the Star Citizen YouTube channel for updates.

Chris mentioned it in the last weeks, around October or December. But he said they shouldn't stress too much about it—AC 2.0 and Star Marine are crucial for Squadron 42, and once those are in place the game will start making sense.

Thanks in advance. I occasionally visit the RSI site and forums but find limited details or talks about the upcoming singleplayer title. I'm holding off on the alpha modules since I prefer a fresh experience and want to dive straight into the campaign and singleplayer mode. I also believe that releasing part 1 of Squadron 42 will silence critics who claim it's just a scam and vaporware. Regardless of any delays, by the second quarter of 2016 if it hasn't launched yet, people will be eager (and understandably frustrated).
