I've just switched to Windows 8.1 and it's excellent for gaming.

If you're just playing games, an 8.1 version will boost performance, especially on higher resolutions. It's fine to stick with 8.1 for gaming; choose 7 if you use a desktop regularly and prefer a more balanced setup between desktop, mobile, Metro, and Modern. Opt for 8.1 if you have a touch screen or the Mobile/Metro/Modern interface isn't to your liking. You can find 8.1 keys easily on G2A for a fraction of the cost of 7. Pick 7 if you enjoy the community vibe and are comfortable with 8.1, or go with 7 if others might use your PC occasionally and struggle with the higher settings.

Have you tried 8.1? I didn’t mean to come across as someone speaking from the outside. It seems 8.1 feels better than 7 in most cases. Particularly on the desktop, with a few adjustments you can make the start menu quite useful.
