Hey, I'm searching for motherboards with a lot of RAM capacity over 256GB. I want options beyond just server boards, and I'm open to DDR3 or DDR4 models. Also, I need something affordable and sturdy enough to handle testing while sitting on a desk.

No server board is being used. The question seems to ask about limitations or reasons for not utilizing one.

You're okay with standard hardware, but if needed, I can review server boards for the lowest cost. Just let me know when you're ready.

the limitation comes from standard desktop processors which typically handle only four memory modules. for combining typical hardware with large amounts of RAM, threadripper pro seems to be the best option.

keep costs low while maximizing storage, consider purchasing a used HP ProLiant or Dell PowerEdge server, and don’t forget earplugs for peace.
