If I can set up W11, I’d go for it. However, I needed it to ensure I still received official MS security updates. I don’t want to depend on external patches. Without those updates, I’d prefer sticking with W10. I’ve looked into methods to install W11 on non-approved systems, but I believe a new W11 release could break compatibility or block future updates. Updates are crucial to me. I’m based in the US, and power usage only becomes important when streaming content. On my current setup, watching YouTube on a high-end i7-7700K at 4K can demand 20–100% CPU (up to 100% for 4K). With a large TV, the CPU load might not be the biggest concern. Streaming MP4 videos from the drive is essentially idle CPU work. Energy savings wouldn’t justify the upgrade unless it led to other benefits. I’m open to ARM devices but worry about keeping backup drives and syncing data across systems. Right now, I just use one main rig and a secondary computer for backups, running my filesync software to keep data safe. Those external drives hold movies I enjoy watching in the living room, so they definitely need storage.
