Hey everyone, Brad here. Recently I assembled a new setup: an Asus A88mx-A motherboard, 8GB Coursair Vengeance Pro RAM at 2133MHz (soon upgraded to 16GB), a Sapphire R9 270X 4GB DDR5 graphics card (just installed two days ago), an AMD A10 7700K Black Edition APU with 10 cores (4 CPUs + 6 GPUs), a 650W Thermaltake PSU, and a Coursair case from the Carbide Series® Air 240 High Airflow MicroATX/Mini-ITX line. After installing everything, I started testing the limits of this rig. In Battlefield 4 I managed ultra 1080p with zero lag at over 90 FPS, Minecraft hit 100+ FPS with all settings cranked, and other titles like Metro 2033 and Last Light performed well too. I tweaked things like fan speeds to keep things cool and plan on getting water cooling soon. In Planetside 2, performance dropped noticeably—around 60 FPS in non-battle zones, 40-30 FPS during medium fights, and 20-30 with some lag but still playable. I’m curious: what could be causing the issue if Planetside 2 runs smoothly for the others? Should I adjust my APU settings? Are there any tips to optimize the graphics card I don’t know about? Thanks a lot, Brad.

It uses a lot of CPU compared to other titles.

Planetside 2 demands significant CPU resources, while an A10 offers limited performance. Nonetheless, many systems can be managed through the more intense challenges in the game.

Achieving steady 90+ frames per second often requires hardware like an overclocked Intel 4690K. AMD options usually result in poor performance in that game. It seems the game is heavily dependent on CPU power. You might need to disable shadows and reduce other demanding settings.

Achieving top CPU performance on planetside2 requires the best single-thread speed possible. Even with overclocking to extreme settings, my 3770K struggles during tough matches due to poor optimization. Adding more cores isn't effective since the system is not well-suited for it. The PS2 graphics are light, but it can handle high resolutions like 1080p60 on a GTX650 or higher.
