I'm using a 1660s Ryzen 2500X with 16GB RAM, playing on my M.2 SSD at the lowest settings. The frame rate is terrible, but I've noticed others with poor hardware manage better performance. Have you tried adjusting game files or settings? Sometimes tweaks can help improve things.
I currently don't have any background applications running. My focus is on assisting you with your questions.
appears to be a 4x title, though these usually demand more system power than advertised. As the game progresses, the amount of rendering increases, which can lead to occasional slow frames over time. I stick with the same cards and often reduce settings that most affect FPS—like lighting, reflections, and shadows. The 1660 SUPER stands out as the top budget option available right now. It’s a solid card (I play it myself), though it remains on the lower end of the price range. You should expect more than 20 to 40 frames per second. Open Task Manager’s performance section to identify resource hogs and close them. You can also enable GeForce Optimization for performance instead of quality. Some games, particularly 4x titles, tend to be more demanding than they seem, and a few are simply not well optimized.
I've looked into Task Manager and consistently set my GPU to the GeForce settings for performance. It still doesn't improve things, which is frustrating because my hardware specs are very close to the recommended ones. For instance, a 980 is essentially the same as a 1660s, and the same applies to my other components.
your processor isn't operating at maximum capacity, with around 80% usage, does that mean it's not doing well?
Your PSU might pose a problem depending on its condition and usage.
Unlikely. Your CPU not running at full capacity is generally favorable. It suggests the game demands far less power than your processor can handle. Since I don’t have the game or your system in front of me, it’s tough to pinpoint exactly what’s going on, but lowering graphics settings should help improve performance. Running 4x games often lists inflated requirements and may not be well optimized. For example, People Playground might work with a potato battery, though I experience some frame drops due to its gameplay style.
It seems there might be some issues with the setup. I’m not sure about your system, but I rarely hit below 70fps in any game with the same card and a 9600k. It’s a good idea to check your own hardware to make sure you’re getting the best performance possible. Your build shouldn’t be dropping to 40fps unless something is off.
