Placed AMD Ryzen 5 5600x in a plastic case on the carpet.
I checked the box and it arrived sealed, but after a fall it got damaged. I’m worried about parts getting broken during transport.
The greatest danger lies in bent pins. As long as the pins are fine, no damage should occur
Unlikely, the silicon inside a CPU is fragile, but the IHS usually shields it from harm. Minor scratches from a fall might occur, but they shouldn't cause serious issues unless they're quite deep.
The IHS only helps move heat away from the die to the environment. You can place your CPU next to a sanding machine and grind just the IHS if needed, as long as the CPU remains intact. What matters is the die (protected by the IHS and other components), the pins (confirmed working), and any static discharge that might damage the internals—this is only a concern if the device is exposed outside the case. You're safe.
