? that PSU isnt great for any modern system. it being group regulated, fails holdup time and crossloads. apperantly has relativly high ripple on the 12v rail. wattage wise its fine, its just not a very good PSU. and he should consider swapping it with this upgrade.
this is a budget unit from, *checks notes* 2013............ actually you dont need to do that when its a group regulated and it fails crossloads, that is ignoring the transient response tests that it also fails. tho to a lesser degree. its not allways a matter of how much you load the system, but also how you load it. you can get good units for pretty cheap in Germany. 66 euros for a very decent unit. and considering he will be keeping this for a couple of years, this is a very sound investment he might aswell consider doing now.
I own a 650W or 630W unit—probably the Thermaltake Berlin—I’m not worried about replacing it. I was using it in another PC with an older but decent Nvidia graphics card that drew around 250W, plus an older AMD setup. It’s been fine so far. I just realized I also swapped the graphics card there; now it’s running on a 750 Ti with only guest access allowed. Edited April 3, 2020 by Joggy385
I received the mainboard and CPU for free, which is why I’m planning an upgrade—these parts aren’t bad, just better than what I currently have. They should last several years until I complete my apprenticeship. Once I have more funds, I won’t worry about outdated equipment.
