Picking a new cpu
It’ll only cost me around 400 to 430 dollars for either the 12900k at 7700x with extra memory and RAM. The 5800x3d on Amazing is priced at 330 dollars.
I generally avoid AM4 beyond the budget limit and harbor strong dislike for Intel. LGA1700 is superior to AM4 at lower price points. A 5800x3D works, but it’s not justified unless you already have a PCIe 4.0 board and a robust 3200MHz 32GB RAM setup. The 13700k is a better pick than the 12900k due to improved single and multithreaded performance plus IPC gains. Even the 13600k is preferable over the 12900k if you value multithreading, unless you’re willing to skip that. In Q4 2023, a 5800x3D mainly adds little value; it’s safer to opt for a 7600x and look forward to a 8800x3D in the next generation instead of building a 5800x3D from scratch. Unless your board and RAM are already at their limits with an older Ryzen AM4 CPU, stick with what you have.
