I need to upgrade to a DDR5 platform. Uncertain about choosing between the 12900K or the 7700X. I already have a D-15 cooler. Recommendations? Focus on gaming and streaming. Plan to move to a 3090 later. Will purchase at MicroCenter with matching CPU and motherboard bundles. Consider the 5800X3D when prices drop. Thanks for all the tips!

Consider this PC part selection for an AMD Ryzen 7 7700 3.6 GHz 8-core CPU (price £308.96 at Box Limited). The motherboard is MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX AM5 (£199.00 at Computer Orbit). Memory includes G.Skill Ripjaws S5 32 GB DDR5-5600 CL28 (£108.05 on Amazon UK), bringing the total to £616.01. All costs cover shipping, taxes, and applicable discounts. List generated by PCPartPicker on 2023-10-02 15:43 BST+0100.

I play at 1080p with future goals of 1440p. Focus on gaming and streaming. Upgrading to a 3090 in 2070 makes sense.

They don't match up, especially when you look at the newer models. It really depends on your needs, but I’d go with AMD. A 7600X fits a budget, 7800X3D is great for gaming, 7950X works well for productivity, and 7950X3D matches Ryzen performance. The platform stays upgradeable, and they’re even more efficient.

EVGA cards weren't always superior to others; their main advantage was decent customer support.

It doesn't make sense since they've already sold out their cards and won't be reliable for support. Consider getting a 4070Ti or 7800XT—better value and more efficient. The difference among card makers isn't huge; brands like EVGA, Gigabyte, PNY, Asus all perform similarly.
