Picking a mobo for an A10 7850k GPU OC setup
Hey everyone, just wanted to share my thoughts. I've studied quite a bit about the A10 7850k's capabilities and have a question. The only motherboards in my country that support the FM2+ socket are the Asus A88XM-A/E and Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-DS2.
I'm planning to overclock the GPU to 1028 and want to know which of these three will work. Could you please confirm if any of them can handle that? Also, I'm curious about what I'll get after pairing the OC'd APU with an R7 250 GDDR5 graphics card.
Since I'm on a budget, I'm leaning towards the Gigabyte option.
Also, just a note—my RAM is the Vengeance® Pro Series — 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 DRAM at 2400MHz with a C11 Memory Kit and 1.65V. Any thoughts on whether stock cooling will suffice for this level of overclocking, or if I'll need something more robust?
Any A88X is acceptable. Avoid pairing it with a R7 250. Skip dual graphics. Opt for an Athlon x4 860k or 880k along with an RX460 for comparable cost.
There isn't a wide range of AMD options available in my country. The main models present are 5350 and 5150, which offer very limited choices. That selection is quite poor overall. I've been checking it out. The RX 460 seems reasonably priced and delivers solid performance, though it would require upgrading the CPU. What are your thoughts on the G4400? Its 7850k offers only a 19% boost in performance, and the cheapest i3 is nearly twice as expensive. Could the two-thread limitation affect gameplay?
The decision is confirmed. G4400 and RX460 will work. Will a 350-watt unit suffice? I think it's possible to use the built-in cooling if the chassis includes five fans.
