Hello, I'm new to Mac and trying to get familiar with everything before using the OS. I know photos will sync from my iPhone via iCloud, but can I save pictures directly to the Photos app for easier viewing on my phone? Should I only keep them in the Finder or use the built-in iCloud section? Any advice would be appreciated.

You simply add any folder or image to Photos, and it will automatically import and upload to iCloud. Your iPhone handles this on its own for images saved from other apps. The only case is files downloaded via Safari, which you can import directly from the file browser.
