Phone connection issues are common today.
I own a Galaxy Note paired with the standard LTE model, not the 5G variant. My carrier is Q-Link Wireless Free Life Line. The issues I face are: inside the house, to play a voicemail I have to open the front circular window, turn off the phone, and then turn it back on. It still shows "not registered on network." Even outside the house in areas with strong signals, connections are extremely slow and it takes a long time to reach servers. I need the phone to function properly so I can make and receive calls anytime without problems. Is this a problem with Q-Link? Should I get a new phone or SIM card? Am I limited because I don’t have a 5G device? Or is it mainly due to the lack of 5G? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I notice several problems in my area with 5G phones due to weak range and reception. The signal often switches between low 5G and high 4G LTE. I usually fix this by turning off 5G and using the device at 4G LTE when possible. For your case, it's difficult to say definitively—possibly Q-Link doesn't support Note 10 Plus. I'm not familiar with Q-Link, and I haven't heard of it before. I've been using Google Fi for about six years now and haven't run into issues except when I'm forced to use mainstream phones (no expensive Chinese alternatives). The SMS service works through the Google Fi app, which also lets you send messages via Web using your Google account instead of SMS on the phone—this is quite convenient.
I had a mobile plan and required a replacement SIM. Most people would offer me a fresh one if they knew my phone had been checked at a place like GeekSquad. I followed that advice, bringing a note with my ID number. When T-Mobile upgraded our service to 5G, performance dropped significantly. I visited T-Mobile and mentioned my phone was checked, and GeekSquad confirmed it was the SIM issue. I needed a new SIM within five minutes, and my problem was resolved. I checked this first by transferring my old SIM to another device, which showed the issue moved with it.
5G works best when you're near cell towers, but otherwise it's not very good.
