Hey there! Thanks for the eBay offer—I hadn’t noticed such a good deal on a quad! Sure, I usually quote prices but it does take up quite a bit of room. I should have mentioned you earlier. Honestly, my mind is already getting a little sore from this. I’ll get to it eventually. For now, I’m holding off on buying more networking equipment unless necessary. To be clear, the server was free; I just got a flash drive and a 500GB Samsung 870 Pro SSD for it. I already have a 5-port gigabit unmanaged switch, my Linksys router, and a 16-port 10/100 unmanaged switch. Updated on September 5, 2022 by Nimoy007 – noted the 16-port switch is unmanaged.
I believe you require VLANs to ensure proper routing. This setup allows you to send WAN traffic in while routing local traffic correctly. Alternatively, a dedicated PCIe quadnic could simplify the process.
Maybe a simple thought: why pick VMware Workstation over ESXi when you could use it directly?
ESXi is a top-tier Server Hypervisor from VMWare. It operates as its own operating system, accessible through your web browser. Using ESXi gives you complete access to virtualization capabilities. The software is free to download, though recent updates may have introduced some fees. Additional expenses can occur if you need the Virtual Center management server with particular high availability or failover features. As long as you’re using just one host, everything works smoothly.
