Pf sensor fails to recognize the NIC device.
I don't understand networking or using pfSense well since the ISP router isn't reliable. I put in a D33682 NIC which I'm sure works, but pfSense won't recognize anything if I connect anything to it—no lights at all (though I see them when I power it on). Should I install a driver for it? If yes, how do I do that? I've checked the web GUI but have very little knowledge of FreeBSD or networking in general. With a 775 Pentium 4 and 1.5GB RAM using an MS-DOS 4.2 board, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks a lot! Have a nice day!
Is it visible in the Interfaces and Assignments section of the available network port list? If yes, have you actually linked them to interfaces? Also note that the "Enable" checkbox for new interfaces is usually left unchecked by default.
There seems to be no indication of pfsense detecting the card, despite visuals appearing on boot. The interface doesn’t show any recognition, and the older BIOS doesn’t list all connected devices. I’m connecting through the onboard port as a wan and thin device into my PC.
I turned on "onboard Lan boot rom" since that’s the closest match. Oddly, the device doesn’t appear when selecting via LAN options. I’m aware the PCIe slot functions properly—it once housed a GPU. I plan to install Windows and check if it gets detected.
I successfully fixed it. Just removed a bit of plastic from the 1x slot and inserted the card. It seems there was a damaged pin or something in the 16x area that the card doesn’t fit. Thanks for your assistance!
