Hi, you're looking to clean up your laptop by organizing and backing up your data. Since the operating system isn't included, you can safely remove it from the backup. Focus on saving important folders like documents, photos, videos, and any personal files you want to keep. For a full backup, consider using external storage or cloud services to ensure everything is secure. Let me know if you need more details!

Transfer the files to an external hard drive, then move them back.

It depends on what exactly you're trying to achieve. Copying the entire C and D drives might not preserve all necessary files or configurations for the software to function correctly.

Many generated files are saved in C:\Users. Some programs might keep data in C:\ProgramData, but this is uncommon or it usually refers to global settings that don’t matter much since they’re already replaced by your %APPDATA% folder (if you’re unsure, open explorer and type the address bar). When you reinstall Windows, remember to use the same username you had previously. This helps because you can restore C:\Users to your new installation and all program settings should return. Or at least you can transfer the %APPDATA% folder from your backup to the current one.
