Performance summary for Gears of War 4
i had issues downloading. took forever just to get FH3 or Quantum Break to download.. the UI sucks too. and then there's UWP..
The team successfully adapted this for PC, continuing work on Microsoft's Play Anywhere series. Great menu choices: Spoiler
Completely understood – I was really concerned about a potential crash with Forza Horizon 3 on PC. Luckily, it didn’t happen!
When it comes to steam, I’ll purchase it. If not, I won’t. It’s the standard approach to avoid spending money.
I don't mind Peasant Content, but my main concern is the future of my hobby. Whatever it is. Hope you have fun!
Microsoft mentioned they'll release some STEAM titles we're not sure about. I've faced many problems, mainly with downloads—not Gears of War specifically, but other content. It's not ideal; few people use it enough to provide useful feedback. Even Microsoft staff likely don't engage much, and UWP has its own small drawbacks. The concept seems promising, though. Microsoft might also own Quantum Break, as indicated by searches showing Remedy's interest in collaborating with them for a new IP. They also hold the trademark. That's what I mentioned. Gears of War Ultimate Edition and Gears of War 4 differ from Quantum Break because they lack multiplayer. I think they'll encounter more STEAM issues until they gain access to updated APIs through Win32 apps (which currently don't exist). Or they'd need to adapt UWP apps for STEAM, which would require additional development work. Some competition is beneficial—it pushes innovation.
Unlike most, I was pleased when EA launched Origin, even though I no longer had a unified library. I appreciated its genuine customer support and features absent in STEAM. If people were less critical of EA and they continued adding features like before, Origin could have been an excellent client. There are longstanding requests for better quality and user experience on STEAM (6+ years), but the platform hasn't improved much. Now it seems they only focus on features that boost their revenue. They no longer feel compelled to deliver a superior experience. I don’t know if you notice issues with older hardware, but the PS3 was terrible, and without Microsoft’s pressure in the last generation, the PS4 might have been just as bad.
My main point is that a bit of competition is good—it keeps things fresh. Consolidation is nice, but healthy rivalry encourages progress.
