Performance slows down during downloads.
Hello everyone, I've been experiencing some frustration with my internet connection lately. When downloading from Epic, Steam or just general downloads, other devices become significantly slower. Right now ATS is undergoing an update (3.9GB) and the maximum peak speed is 2.5MB/s, which makes everything else feel sluggish—even when updating ATS, my web browsing takes ages to load a single page. This isn't the same as before; I used to get around 5MB/s and could stream YouTube while downloading. Now the speed tests show download speeds of about 17Mbps and upload at 18Mbps. Weirdly, the upload seems better than the download. Previously I was paying for 35Mbps downloads, but now it feels like the upload is actually improving things.
17 Mbps equals 2.125 MB per second, meaning the game is consuming all your download speed. Restart your modem and verify the connections are secure. If problems persist, contact your ISP. Do you have a cable modem or DSL connection?
The modem/router displays various speeds. The speed test results are available here: https://www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat
Speed is approximately 2.5MB/s or about 20mbps, which matches your test outcomes. When bandwidth is limited, delays on internet tasks are expected.
Lately things have gotten worse. I used to get 35mb/s, but now it's slower. Downloading games on Steam still works, but I can't watch or use my other PC. Websites load faster now, yet downloads are taking longer. The box is outside and connected to fiber internet ;(
Then you will need to call your ISP to determine whats wrong if you have done all the steps you can. I would recommend first is reboot your PC and modem/Router. Then shut down any and ALL other devices and test again. It could be a device on the network is chewing up bandwidth from being infected with malware potentially. Lots of variables here, but this is where I would start personally. Shut it all down and reboot it up one by one and test to see if it starts when a certain device is online.
Turn off QoS settings. Ignore buffer issues, begin your downloads and browse the web as usual.
It's not working, speeds on Steam are about 2.4 mb/s and web pages load a bit quicker but remain slow. The biggest issue is I'm spending money on 35 downloads and still can't reach 35mb/s for three weeks—I can upload faster than I download. LOL
