Hey there! I’m trying to figure out how to raise the clock speed of my i5-9400f under load, but it’s stuck at 2.9GHz max. I’ve heard about boosting clocks in low load, up to around 4.1GHz, but my CPU isn’t doing that. I don’t want to risk damaging anything or spending money on repairs. If anyone has tips, it would really help! Thanks a lot.

Consider installing Hardware Info (https://www.hwinfo.com/) to monitor CPU temperatures. It would help to understand the cooling system in use—whether it's a laptop or desktop.

HWinfo provides the CPU temperature readings for both idle and load conditions.

Just a note: https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/intel/core_i5/i5-9400f
@AyyIt's okay to start with your Windows power plan. (look under power & sleep). Find Power, it should be set to balanced.

If that doesn't help: Reset BIOS. You can clear it by removing the CMOS battery for about 5 minutes while the PSU is off. Alternatively, enter BIOS and select optimized defaults.

It was running at around 35-40°C while idle, and when under load it reached 50-52°C.

It seems the problem isn't related to heat. The doctor Nick's advice should be examined first.

You can try it in Cinebench R23 and employ hwinfo64 to monitor frequencies and temperatures during high load.

Adjust your power configuration to balanced and then access your BIOS to revert everything to the standard optimal presets.

Review high-level power configurations, navigate to the CPU/Processor area, and verify that the maximum clock frequency cap is at 100%.
