Performance problems in watch dog systems
Performance problems in watch dog systems
I’m experiencing significant issues with my watchdog lately. It’s likely related to CPU creation and artificial bottlenecks in the game. My GPU stays around 50% utilization, almost at ultra. That’s normal, but the real issue is frame rate fluctuations—drops and spikes based on background activity. While idle, my CPU usage stays around 50-60%, which causes poor performance, only about 30-40 FPS, which is terrible. When I play games, I have to lower settings to keep things running. This clearly points to a CPU limitation. My friend with an i7-3770K runs everything smoothly at 60 FPS or more, but when I run a program that increases CPU load by about 10%, my game’s cores jump to 70% and then drop back down, causing even lower FPS. It seems the game is enforcing some core usage cap, possibly built into its design. This is frustrating because it prevents me from using my hardware effectively. If this isn’t intentional, why would such a game penalize performance so much on my 7970 processor (FX 8120 at 4.5 GHz)? It feels like a reason to buy more expensive gear just to play games that should work fine on my current setup.
the game isn't well suited for multi-threading and the FX8120 struggles with single-threaded tasks.
The game is designed to run smoothly with multiple threads. This is why the i7 performs better than the i5 in this scenario. Regarding your issue, it doesn't seem to be related to your CPU. I'm using an FX 8320 and it isn't causing any problems. The game's optimization for AMD is still limited at the moment. I would attribute it more to the game itself.
I updated it to real-time priority, it performs much better now.
It's been a lot of crashes lately since that patch update. The frame drops while driving got worse too. It seems the game still uses most of its VRAM, even after moving most of it to High in Ultra. FPS improved a bit, but the overall performance isn't great. Gamma 4670K and a 4GB GTX 770 are the specs.
That sounds really bad. The setup should work well in 1080p. I was thinking about getting more watch dogs because I don’t want to back Ubisoft, but that feels way too extreme.
Ubisoft clearly struggles to make PC games run smoothly. Don't hold your breath with your card.
I trust you completely. I’ve checked everything and seen how the card performs in other games at ultra settings. Here are some interesting details about this card: @Ultra Temp: 75C fans @ 55-60% VRAM usage: 3.3GB FPS around 45-55, except during driving when it falls by at least 10—even a 14 FPS was recorded. @High Temp: 70C fans @ 40% VRAM usage: 3.3GB FPS about 50-65, except during driving where it drops again, this time to around 35-45 FPS. The lowest I’ve seen was 21. This isn’t a scientific analysis; it’s just random testing and I noticed the game isn’t optimized at all. I think the recent patch made things worse. Before, there were barely any FPS drops at ultra with no crashes, and since then the game has randomly crashed 5-7 times, no matter how long you play. EDIT: Also, a random console complaint: why must I press any key to open the main menu? Shouldn’t I just jump there directly? Jesus, I shouldn’t get so upset about this, but what’s going on with all that?
I achieved significantly improved results by switching to real-time priority, and I applied process lasso to ensure it always starts in real-time.
