I’m experiencing subpar results in MS Flight Sim, even with my hardware configured for optimal performance. When using RTSS, my GPU never exceeds 65% usage across any graphic setting. It seems a CPU limitation might be involved, but video on YouTube shows my CPU at lower utilization while RAM and graphics cards run above 30fps and GPU usage tops the 90%. I’m running the newest BIOS and updated drivers. My specs include an ASRock Fatal1ty AB350-Gaming-ITX with a Ryzen 5 3600, 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4, and an RTX 2070 Super. I have an SSD array for OS and games, and my son’s setup performs significantly better despite similar configurations. My system uses ASUS Tuf Gaming X570-Plus with a Ryzen 7 3700, 16GB RAM, and an RTX 2080. His drives are faster, and his GPU handles games more smoothly. Could the difference stem from being on a first-gen Ryzen board, or is it primarily a CPU issue? I’m confident my configuration should be running better than what I see.

Your system runs smoothly on the 3rd generation 3700X with an X370 board. Could you share your CPU usage during gameplay?

Typically 35-40% occurring occasionally, peaks reaching 85

Interesting point about staying under 65% GPU usage in that game. Other titles seem to be working well. You might want to remove the GPU drivers using DDU and reinstall them if needed.

My other games are working well. I realize this one is quite demanding on the CPU as well. When I check Task Manager, six threads are nearly at full capacity, and my son's machine shows the same pattern. Neither of them utilizes the entire CPU, and his single-thread speed isn't much better than mine. I plan to try a DDU and reinstall the graphics driver, though I haven't done that yet.

Looks like a driver problem—I haven’t made any updates since the 431.60 release. The updates from 436.02 hurt performance in most games, but slightly boosted it in a few.

It's hard to say based on personal stories, but the Steam Community for MSFS2020 has been disappointing since it launched, especially among Nvidia users.

It shouldn't be a problem with an R5 3600. It should perform well, here's screenshot of a task manager CPU utilization graph that I found ( source ) : Even with a 2080Ti the 3800X is at less than half total CPU usage, with the first 4-5 threads being pinned the most. A 6C/12T 3600 with a slower GPU shouldn't see much difference, if any.

Fascinating... the task manager displays the CPU at 4.3GHz, while the best mine reports 4.2. Probably not a big difference either way. I think 100MHz in either direction won’t noticeably affect performance. I’ll experiment to see what works. **OMG I’m not smart enough. That’s a 3800!**
