Hello, I'm just starting out on this forum... I'm experiencing some performance problems with Doom Eternal. It seems really inconsistent, especially after downloading the game. Initially, it was running poorly—around 100 to 40 FPS with many stutters. After restarting my PC, it worked perfectly at over 200 FPS with no stutters. However, the next day it became unplayable again, and I can't fix it anymore. I've tried reinstalling on different drives, updating GPU drivers, updating BIOS, clearing cache, cleaning installed programs, enabling high performance mode in both NVCP and Windows, turning off overlays, adjusting v-sync, setting FPS limits, modifying game settings, and more. None of these steps resolved the issue. I've checked all temperatures and my CPU and GPU are within normal ranges (60s–70s), while my GPU is at 83°C—this is typical for that power level. The game runs on an SSD, and I have no overclocking. I don't have any overclock settings and the issue persists. I'm really stuck and just want to finish the campaign.
Here are my system details:
- Operating System: Windows 10 (64 bit)

- RAM: Kingston Hyper-X Fury 2x8GB (16GB) Dual Channel
- Power Supply: Corsair CX550
- Storage: SSD Kingston 480GB (System and game), Seagate 7200RPM 1TB HDD
- Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060
- Monitor: LG27GL650FB - G-Sync Compatible
All hardware was purchased new four years ago.

You'll notice that when loading the menu, the GPU latency spikes significantly, and this only happens during very poor gameplay. The problem disappears afterward.
Additional specs I overlooked: PSU is Corsair CX550 (purchased four years ago together with all other gear, still in good condition), Disk Drive is an SSD Kingston 480GB (identical to the PSU, 83% health on Crystal Disk, 60GB free space, same drive as the system), and a Seagate 1TB HDD for other games. The game was bought on Steam, standard edition.
The 4 year old PSU seems like a probable culprit—its performance might be declining due to reaching its end of life. This concern is heightened if it's being used for intensive gaming. Review the Reliability History or Monitor for any error messages, alerts, or unusual events around the times the game stops working. Also, consider the SSD Kingston 480 GB, which currently holds only about 12% free space; ideally, there should be 20-30% available. Examine the error codes and attempt to reclaim more disk space. Have you got another compatible PSU ready for replacement? Make sure to use only the provided cables when swapping. Prioritize backing up critical data at least twice to separate locations before making any changes. Confirm the backups are both recoverable and accessible.
I don't have any other PSU to test, but I managed to clear the required space on the SSD and looked at the errors—most of them weren't significant. They mostly came from a razer service that forces shutdown when I turn off my PC. It's strange since I'm only experiencing this problem with Doom Eternal.
I resolved the problem by uninstalling Steam, as it was affecting the issue. Since Doom Eternal has a history of performance problems with overlays, I disabled the overlay specifically for that game and restarted the PC. It now works properly. Thanks for your assistance!
