Performance plummets unexpectedly.
I built my own PC a few years back and have been gradually improving it. I currently have an GTX 1660 6GB with an i5 7600K, a 240GB SSD, and an older hard drive for storage. I also have 16GB of RAM plus an extra card (GTX 1050 2GB) for my monitor. My motherboard is an MSI Z270 SLI Plus. The issue is that I can't play games like PUBG smoothly, even with around 100 FPS on low settings. It drops to about 50 FPS afterward. This seems unusual since the card should handle that performance if I've checked benchmarks properly. Could someone explain why? Did I pick the wrong graphics card during the upgrade? Should I consider upgrading the CPU or is there another reason? Also, I’m thinking about getting an upgrade package with either an R5 3600, R5 3600 X, or another i5 model. Would these work for high FPS? And I should mention I tend to enjoy high frame rates.
I understand I need to upgrade my platform in certain situations. My main concern is getting a better CPU or GPU to achieve a more playable frame rate and full performance of my PC.
I've used regular clocks before, but they seem to cause more issues. The FPS drops significantly in these situations...
People shared their thoughts to help you understand. Consider a game with lower CPU demand and see how it performs. Also, try using ddu. What are your temperatures? It might be due to the constraints of your 4C/4T chip.
