Performance on a GTX 1080ti with Red Dead Redemption 2
Performance on a GTX 1080ti with Red Dead Redemption 2
Hello Everyone.
I’m reaching out for some guidance on the performance challenges I’m facing with Red Dead Redemption 2 at 1080P.
I know the game is quite demanding and usually needs a powerful PC to run smoothly, but I’m curious if occasional frame drops in specific sections are typical.
Feel free to share your full system details along with the current settings you’re using.
Some observations I’ve made:
- The first noticeable drop happens when you and your team head to rob the train, moving from snowy areas to grassy ones. My frame rate dropped from stable 60Fps to around 50s.
- Another instance occurs when you and your group leave for another town and a wagon wheel breaks; I experienced a similar slowdown to low 50s while riding the wagon just before it failed.
- If these are the only times this happens, I’m hoping it’s not a widespread issue, especially since I’m new to the game and haven’t been playing much yet.
The sections where drops are most frequent seem to be early in the game, as I’ve only purchased it yesterday.
Any advice or information would be really helpful.
I’m open to adjusting settings if it doesn’t significantly affect visual quality.

Expected results are normal, Pascal cards (along with older Nvidia cards) perform significantly worse than the latest Turing cards or AMD cards (especially on Vega, Navi, and Polaris)
You should be able to achieve over 60fps in ultra. My 980ti runs at 45fps even with higher settings in 1440p.
