Hi! Your DELL G3 3579 has been reliable for nearly four years, but lately its performance feels sluggish. When playing Overwatch, FPS drops noticeably from around 150 to 100 and then stays low for an unpredictable period. I've checked several things to find the cause, but nothing seems to fix the issue. Here are the signs I noticed: - GPU usage stays between 50-60% while CPU runs around 80% - Temperatures are steady near 60°C for both components - Neither the GPU nor CPU is throttling power according to HWINFO64 - CPU clocks remain steady at 3100 MHz boost What I've tried so far to help: - Lowered CPU and GPU voltages - Disabled Intel DPTF settings My laptop specs (original plus upgrades): CPU – Intel Core i5-8300H GPU – GTX1050 4GB RAM – 16GB (8x2) DDR4 2667MHz Storage – OS and Overwatch – ADATA SX6000NP PCIe 2x Windows 10 19242.1645 I'm wondering where the bottlenecks are and how to improve gaming performance, since temps and usage look okay but results aren't great.

The temperatures while gaming are typically moderate, often staying between 60-85°F (15-30°C). The GPU and CPU TDP values depend on the specific hardware, but generally range from 30-100W for mid-range components.

Use GPU-z to examine the PerfCap issue. It will explain why the GPU isn't operating at full capacity, such as power issues, temperature, frequency, or voltage limits.

I'm relying on HWINFO64 since it provides identical system information and only shows utilization, which isn't causing any issues. It doesn't seem to indicate anything significant right now.

CPU power consumption is 45W while GPU uses 53W. Temperatures remain steady near 60°C for both components.

The sensor temps are definitely fine. Regarding throttling, I'm considering it too, but I can't identify the exact cause. It might be a bottleneck in something unexpected like RAM or SSD, but my laptop seems to be in good shape overall.

I made a minor adjustment. I tried playing OW2 and noticed the following metrics: | GPU | CPU | Util, % | 85| 60| Temps, C | 75| 75| Power, W | 26| 30| From this I need clarification: - Why doesn’t my GPU reach 100% consistently? - Why are temperatures so low despite good performance? - CPU and GPU aren’t operating at full capacity. - Power consumption for both doesn’t seem to hit the 130W limit, even with other components drawing power. Possible issues could be RAM, SSD, or software restrictions? Where should I investigate further?

I believe the laptop manufacturer has capped the GPU temperature at 75°C, causing it to throttle once that threshold is reached. The same applies to the CPU. Consider activating High Performance of Ultra Performance in BIOS (I own a Dell too, so check the Power section and select Ultra Performance—it will increase the temperature limit to 84°C).

Thanks for the feedback. My BIOS doesn't offer a way to tweak the temperature limit, but I kept checking if reaching the maximum could happen. Based on the stress tests and gaming sessions, temperatures consistently reached around 75°C. Interestingly, my temperature cap remained at 92°C even after no changes were made. I decided to run a FurMark stress test and found power limitations instead of overheating. I'm planning to explore solutions, possibly upgrading to a 180W power adapter instead of the current 130W one.
