I recently acquired an i9-9900KS and it isn't functioning as expected. I'm using an Asus Maximus XI Hero (black ops 4 edition) with a Cooler Master ML240R cooler. When multi-core enhancement is off or set to Auto, my scores range from 4600 to 4700 in Cinebench R20, with clock speeds around 4.7GHz to 5GHz for about ten seconds before dropping to 4.5GHz across all cores. With multi-core enhancement enabled, it maintains 4.8GHz throughout and achieves scores between 4800 and 4900. Online users suggest aiming for 5100 to 5200 in the same test. Temperatures typically stay between 70 and 80°C, never exceeding 85°C. Anyone with similar chips would appreciate seeing their benchmarks? Are there any steps you could take to improve performance?

I don’t possess a processor as powerful as yours, but I’m not keen on criticizing your cooler. Most setups with that CPU use a three-fan radiator instead of two, though I’m not entirely sure. I’d appreciate a second opinion on that. A Beefy Air cooler also works well.

It's already boosted to 5 GHz from the start, even with just one core. The speed looks as expected.

Typically, users achieve better results by stopping all background tasks so each point is captured or launching the application in a nearly brand-new Windows setup without any background services running.

I’m planning to explore a higher-quality cooler and possibly build a fully custom loop later. I want to verify whether the built-in cooling meets expectations for this setup. It might have been worth mentioning earlier, but I’m not aiming to overclock—I’m checking if the default performance is sufficient or if I’m missing something. Maybe I’m just being cautious.

MCE boosts performance by increasing voltage and requiring more effort. For better results, consider using Ryzen instead of overclocking.

I’d look into your warranty first, but I think the maximum speed on the KS is included in the warranty. I’d double-check it just to be sure. It’s similar to how the boost clock on AMD CPUs only limits how far you can go before impacting your warranty.

When temperatures stay moderate, upgrading your cooler won’t improve performance much. If you still want to upgrade, I suggest the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280mm.

I don't believe Intel has a method to detect overclocking during an RMA. (It was shown indirectly by GamersNexus in his XMP RMA video) Of course, only if you don't disclose it yourself.
