I chose to test my newly assembled PC using Cinebench 2024. I was let down by the 7600 achieving just a multi-core score of 604, far below the 750-850 range I expected. In Novabench the results were similarly disappointing compared to other CPUs with the same processor. The temperatures reached up to 96.6°C, which could be typical for the standard cooler. The only BIOS updates I made were enabling PBO and EXPO.
It's a Masterbox Q300L with the side panel removed. Even though I'm using a built-in cooler, I've customized the fan curves via FanControl. If it's thermal throttling, I expect my average score to match what others get because most people likely use the stock cooler with a similar case. I'm considering upgrading to a Thermalright Phantom Spirit to test its impact.
The room's ambient temperature is around 15°C to 35°C depending on conditions. If you're in the northern hemisphere without air conditioning, the internal temperature may rise significantly. For example, a CPU running at 75°C in a 15°C room could reach about 95°C if the room temperature increases by 20 degrees.
That works, I’ll try the new benchmark with the cooler when it arrives and check the results.
The room stays around 25-30°C this summer, which seems to affect things. I mostly rely on a tiny fan near my desk instead of full AC.
Turn off PBO, it looks like you're missing the temperature margin needed. Using it might actually cause more damage due to high voltages. EXPO is acceptable. The stock cooler works, though not ideal. Consider spending 15quid on a simple tower cooler such as the ID Cooling SE214 or Thermalright Assassin King.
