Hey everyone, welcome! I'm new here and feeling really stuck. I recently upgraded my PC a few months ago, and everything was running smoothly. But lately, games keep stuttering. Even when I run programs like Afterburner or GPU tweaks to monitor performance, nothing stands out unusual. Overclocking doesn’t seem to help either—scores improve a bit but still fall short of expectations. After some research and checking with others, I reinstalled everything related to my GPU, making sure all software was removed first. Once everything was fresh, performance returned nicely, and scores jumped significantly. Now, a few days later it’s back to normal. I’m using 3DMark for benchmarks and comparing my results with similar builds. I’m not sure what’s going on, especially since my build is pretty recent. The lag isn’t showing up in general, but it’s noticeable in GTA V maps and menus (single player) and other games. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My specs are: CPU 5900X (watercooled, never near max temp), RAM 32GB Corsair 3600 CL36, GPU Asus Strix 3080 (12GB, stock air cooled), PSU Corsair RM850X.
It might be an additional program you have installed that is causing the problem. Here are a few suggestions: (1) Check every software currently running on your system (stsrem). (2) Install a LiveUSB of something like Linux Mint—very similar to Windows—and run it with a game. If that works, the issue likely lies with software under Windows. If it still doesn’t work, the hardware could be the problem.
I think you're referring to all the software related to my GPU. Currently, I've installed Nvidia Control Panel, GeForce Experience (latest drivers), GPU Tweak 3, CPU-Z, GPU-Z OpenHardware Monitor, and Riva Tuner. I haven't uninstalled anything yet while testing, but I did remove it now. I'm downloading Linux as I type this. Thanks for the advice, I'll check it out.
I relied on v-sync initially. The issue stopped happening for a few days after the full reinstall. But once it started again with every game—even simple ones like Farm Sim 19—it really improved. I’ll reinstall everything using DDU and follow the driver manual, skipping any unnecessary software. Thanks for the advice!

You should skip all monitoring and adjustments, update the GPU driver, and consider resetting the CMOS—especially since the ASUS software might have altered the BIOS. The fact that reinstalling Windows resolved the issue suggests you installed something during a specific period, and you should recall what was done then. While you might not remember exactly, having a general idea is helpful. Personally, I suspect one or more of these programs caused the problem, and it wasn't a good combination. Now you need to troubleshoot, as we can't. My advice is to remove everything except the driver, then test if anything changed.
