I've been playing Minecraft a bit recently and my machine is having trouble. My hardware includes an AMD Ryzen 7 2700 CPU (8 cores/16 threads) with stock speeds, an XFX Radeon RX 570 4GB at stock speeds, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, a 960GB Crucial M500 drive, a late 2009 27" Apple iMac (2560x1440, 60Hz), an Apple Cinema Display 23" (1920x1200, 60Hz), and Windows 10 Pro for Workstations version 1909. Despite being more than capable of running Minecraft at 1440p, it's currently lagging around 30 FPS. It only reaches 60 FPS in open spaces with no obstacles, which isn't ideal. I'm using Minecraft 1.14.4 with OptiFine and a single shader. Render distance is set to 12 chunks, full screen mode is active, and most graphics settings are low. I don’t have anything else running, so it’s unclear why performance is so poor. Anyone have suggestions? This is only played casually when time allows, but it shouldn’t be this bad.

Minecraft sometimes behaves oddly in FPS settings. Back then, I frequently uploaded Let's Plays to YouTube and noticed my frame rate would spike back up to around 60 when I took a screenshot with the F2 key. It wasn’t always consistent, but it was something I repeated. You might try it yourself to check if it makes a difference. My system ran an i5 4440 with a Nvidia GT 635 GPU, playing vanilla Minecraft without any mods or optimizations from version 1.8 up to 1.12.

Twelve chunks are manageable, particularly since I've seen improved results on older hardware with longer render distances.

It hasn't always been an issue, so I believe that's not the case.

Conditions remain stable. Cleaning the system is necessary, yet my performance metrics stay excellent. No Windows patches have been applied in more than a year. BIOS adjustments haven’t been made either, ensuring optimal operation. The machine operates continuously, minimizing opportunities for updates to arrive. I’d notice a change if Windows decided to upgrade, but fortunately it hasn’t.

Trust me, I've checked. Besides, nothing like that can change when the machine is on 24/7.

Have you considered verifying whether Minecraft is consuming all your RAM, especially with its current activity? There’s a possibility it could be using everything.

I adjusted the RAM allocation for MC, though the improvement was minimal. I’m worried I might need to make further changes. I’ll check back in a few days.
