Hey there! I just received a new motherboard paired with a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU. Both are great, but I’m facing some performance hiccups. I’ve installed the latest drivers and set my power plan to Ultimate Performance with Power Boost enabled in BIOS. Despite that, my benchmark scores aren’t what I expect—Cinebench r20 tops out at 3515, while multi-core averages hover around 3450. Even when I ran single-core tests twice, they stayed solid. The multi-core results are the only ones struggling. In the all-core test, the CPU is clocked at 3800MHz, which seems low considering its boost potential of 4200MHz. I’ve tried adjusting each core manually to 4000MHz and got better scores, but I’m not ready to overclock yet since my stock cooler is still in the pipeline. The cooler is set to max, and I see temperatures around 75°C during stress tests. Any advice would be super helpful! Thanks a lot!

75C at 3.8 GHz with all-core configuration offers limited room for significant performance gains unless you opt to manually increase your 3600 CPU's speed. Consider replacing the existing cooler; a reasonably affordable Hyper 212 will outperform the stock model. If you're prepared to install a cable tie mount, use a high-speed fan aimed directly at the VRM and direct airflow over the stock cooler for better cooling. This approach provides a bit more headroom temporarily. Also, verify your case has adequate intake ports and an exhaust vent to efficiently disperse heat.

Since reaching a full-core boost above 4 GHz isn't possible, I'd focus on leveraging thermals. Benchmark comparisons lose meaning without knowing the exact clock speeds used. As mentioned before, if you have an additional fan, try directing it past the VRM and heatsink to check for improvement. With a good heatsink, you should be able to hit 4.1 GHz or higher.

I usually use an NH-L9x65 cooler, which was previously installed in an I-7 6700 with the same TDP as my Ryzen. It worked fine before, right? After installing the new CPU cooler and replacing the board, do you think you’ll see improved boost speeds? Regarding the VRM setup, I’m still getting familiar with it, but I have two fans above the motherboard pointing down. Any other cooling ideas for the MOBO would you consider? Thanks!

I usually use an NH-L9x65 cooler, which was previously installed in an I-7 6700 with the same TDP as my Ryzen. It worked fine before, right? After installing the new CPU cooler and replacing the board, do you think you’ll see improved boost speeds? The Ryzen 3000 series reacts strongly to temperature changes when it comes to performance boosts. A mere 5-10 degrees can cause a noticeable drop in clock speeds by around 100 MHz. At 3800 MHz, standard clocks run at 3600, so higher boosts are unlikely due to heat. I have a 3600 MHz model running on an ASRock X370 Killer SLI with an Arctic Freezer 33, achieving boosts between 3900-3925 MHz at 63°C. Your setup is close but your temps are significantly higher—probably functioning as expected.

I think your old Noctua cooler would likely perform better than the standard heatsink. You might want to look into a 240 mm AIO if you can afford it later—new Arctic models seem to work well and are much cheaper than Corsair or similar brands.
