Performance issues under maximum demand Speed fluctuations observed when system operates at full capacity
Hello, I just set up a 3900x on my MSI b450-m pro vdh board and observed that during heavy use the processor drops to around 3.9-4.0 GHz, which is about 600 MHz below its turbo speed. The CPU stays well below 82°C. I’m unsure if the VRM is overheating or if the chip is throttling, since most reports suggest my board’s VRM can handle around 105 watts compared to roughly 200 watts needed when the 3900x is fully turboing or overclocked. I’m considering adding a cooling solution for the VRMs but want to confirm whether the issue lies with the VRM or another factor.
Turbo speed is designed for individual core enhancements, not for handling multiple threads simultaneously. That’s the intended functionality.
The only certainty under heavy parallel processing is the fixed clock speed. The processor continues to increase its performance significantly above that baseline. Power usage is also likely constrained, since boosting further would risk hitting thermal or voltage limits.
