I have a 3070 and an i7 7700k running at 1440p. Outdoors my frame rate drops around 40fps, especially in city areas. After applying MSI afterburner, my GPU usage stays at 50% while the CPU runs at full capacity. Anyone can offer some insight? I think this configuration should handle higher frame rates compared to others with similar specs. You can view the details in the top-left image attached.
It depends on what you're running. If you're playing a demanding game, your CPU might be limiting the GPU's performance. New players often notice this when games feel slow or laggy. Check your system specs and see if other apps are using high resources.
Looking for a suitable CPU within a $400 budget to improve performance for your game?
Certainly! For a game with a $400 budget, look for a mid-range CPU like the Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X. These offer solid performance without breaking the bank.
CPU has just eight threads—this means the game will likely need far more if it’s available, which is what current trends show. The program isn’t optimized well at all. You probably won’t notice much improvement even after upgrading. There are numerous threads on this forum discussing performance problems with newer hardware.
You'd need to replace your motherboard for a CPU upgrade, and with a $400 budget I’d look for an R7 3700X and a compatible case combo.
Cyberpunk puts a lot of pressure on these CPUs, really testing their limits. It’s no surprise they’ve been pushing older models like the i7-4790 as the go-to choice for high-end gaming. Most quad-core chips will still run solidly in the 30s and 40s in this setting. The R5 3600 can hit around 60 frames per second, and Newegg currently has them available for $230. I’d also look at the R7 3700x for $330—it’s a solid option if you’re after better performance, though finding one soon might be tough. The R5 5600X is another strong pick at $300, offering great value for gaming and multicore tasks.
