Hello friends. In GTA 5 I usually achieve 30-35 FPS with standard graphics at 1366x768 resolution, but when driving in cast it drops to just 19 FPS. What can be done? MSI Afterburner shows the graphics card is using 54% of its capacity, peaking at 79 degrees, while the CPU stays consistently between 70-80% and reaches a maximum of 74 degrees. Your setup includes: Intel Core i3-2120 Esonic H61FHL, ValueRAM 2x4 8 GB DDR3 CL9 at 1333 MHz, Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4830 with 1 GB GDDR3, Samsung 870 EVO SSD 500 GB, and Intel LGA1155 Stock Cooler with PRO2000 ATX-400 PSU.

It seems your system might be running low on CPU capacity. Focus on lowering settings that strain the processor, especially regarding population density and variety. It could also be due to insufficient VRAM. Since you're moving quickly, the system will need to frequently swap textures, which is challenging with only 1 GB of VRAM and the slow performance of GDDR3 technology.

Yes, a CPU upgrade might help somewhat, but it won't fully resolve the issue.

A quicker CPU might offer some improvement, but spending heavily on outdated equipment seems unnecessary. Such old components are hard to find, which can make parts prices seem excessive. The best you could achieve would be an i7 3770k, but then you'd likely hit limits with RAM speed or capacity—perhaps upgrading to 1600 MHz and doubling the storage to 8 GB. Power supply and board voltage regulators could also become bottlenecks. Overall, it would be wiser to invest in a new setup rather than stick with what’s available. A reasonably modern machine from the used market will almost always perform better.

Thank you for your response. I plan to upgrade the processor now, even though the purchase timing is still unclear.

@GalaxySal you're really impressed that GTA5 can run on that setup. Back then, most GPUs only had 4-8GB of VRAM, and I didn't realize GTA5 would work with just 1GB. I think it's about time we upgrade to something newer. The positive side is there are plenty of affordable choices now. As @Eigenvektor mentioned, you don't need the latest hardware—options like an Intel i5-12400, i3-12100 or an AMD Ryzen 5 5500 are available for under $100. Each of these can boost performance by over 500% compared to your old system. A budget 8GB GPU would also fit well, or you could opt for a 12GB VRAM card such as the Radeon RX 6700 to ensure smooth performance for a while.

I was quite taken aback, since the Radeon HD 4830 isn't as powerful as the 'Radeon HD 4870' in the game's minimum specs, but I'm happy it functioned. Regarding the other problem, being in Turkey, a reasonable system cost is a few thousand even for us. The cheapest entry-level setup is around 10 to 20 thousand Turkish Liras. I plan to purchase a more advanced system later.

Ugh, that's frustrating. I'm not sure about the conversion rate, but it seems some places really struggle with higher costs.

Finding a decent used i5 3570K or even i7 3770K could be reasonable. However, I prefer to invest in a new one instead. On eBay I see prices ranging from 20 to 80€, while a brand new unit would cost over 100€ for the i5 and more than 150€ for the i7 (3800-5600 TRY).

Thank you for your response. The current regulations in Turkey set a customs limit of 30 Euros, making it impossible to bring items from eBay. I will focus on local platforms instead. I understand.
