I face a serious issue with my new PC. Usually I play games at smooth frame rates, but suddenly everything slows down completely—my Discord freezes and the game drops to under 20 FPS for a few minutes. It usually lasts 5 to 10 minutes before returning. Sometimes it happens after playing for a while, other times after hours. Yesterday I was watching a movie and it started lagging too, even the audio. I’m not sure why this is happening. My specs are: AMD Radeon RX XFX 570 with 8GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 3 1300X, 4GB RAM, and a 2666MHz WD Blue 500GB HDD on Windows 10 Pro. I’m guessing the problem is related to my RAM usage or something with the games, but it’s not thermal throttling. Could anyone help me figure this out? This PC was a big deal for me, and now it’s disappointing.

Hey there, it seems you're thinking about upgrading your system. You mentioned needing more RAM because the 570 model struggles with lower capacities, which is definitely a concern. Good luck with your upgrade!

You have only 4GB of RAM, which is just enough for Windows 10. Upgrade to a 16GB package and everything will work fine.

It's likely you're unsure, but an 8GB RAM stick at about $35 could help. If you can't get the full 8GB, opt for a 4GB one now and upgrade later if your motherboard supports it.

I’d consider pairs too, especially Ryzen first-gen which requires dual-channel. You could either use two identical 4GB 2666MHz sticks (same model if you can) or opt for a larger 16GB 2x8 setup.
