I’ve experimented with various solutions. Initially, the slowdown was minimal on my desktop but grew in every game I played. Eventually it affected my whole system, making it hard to open Task Manager. I’ve reset the factory settings, changed the BIOS to default, etc. Do you know any additional steps I could try? (I’m not comfortable with hardware or repairs.) Also, remember I’ve owned this machine nearly a year without any problems—games ran smoothly. One time I unplugged it, moved it to a friend’s place, and when I plugged it back in it kept restarting. After cleaning the fan (it was really dusty), I thought that resolved it, but it turned out to be something else. CPU: Intel i7-4770k W/ Integrated 4600 HD Graphics GPU: NVIDA GTX 1060 RAM: 16GB DDR3, 4 sticks, 4GB per Windows 10 - 64Bit I don’t know the BIOS version or the exact motherboard. The PC is too slow to load it now.
Did you remove the CPU cooler fan? Excess heat might be the issue. You mentioned you prefer not to disassemble anything, but replacing the thermal paste is essential. Likely you have a standard cooler or something similar, making the process straightforward. There are many tutorial videos available on YouTube. The thermal paste loses effectiveness as it ages (depending on quality and handling), which can hinder heat transfer from the CPU to the cooler. This may lead to overheating and reduced performance.
