Hey, I see the issue. Your prebuilt from Best Buy isn’t performing as expected. On average, you’re getting around 30 FPS in Minecraft, 130 FPS in Fortnite, and 100-200 elsewhere. The overheating and loud fans suggest the GPU is struggling under load. You might want to check the GPU temperature, ensure proper cooling, and consider upgrading to a better cooler or lowering the resolution in games. Also, verify that the prebuilt is compatible with your system specs.

Besides Minecraft, the situation seems reasonable. Ray tracing poses a significant challenge for graphics cards, making even games like Fortnite hard to run smoothly at high framerates if you push maximum settings. Disabling ray tracing can noticeably improve performance. For most other titles, 100-200 frames per second is typical unless frame generation is enabled; beyond that, gains slow down sharply. For non-competitive games, sticking to full settings usually works best and lets you enjoy the available speed. Poor Minecraft performance is uncommon—verify if settings are limiting it. Regarding cooling, heat and noise are normal for PCs under load; unless temperatures exceed 85°C on your GPU or CPU, the cooling system is functioning properly. Prebuilt units often use inexpensive fans that can be quite loud. Quieter alternatives are available for a modest cost, around $15 per fan.

Hey, I’ve tested it at lower levels and got about the same FPS. I’m a bit puzzled since many people with similar settings seem to achieve 100x higher FPS.

You might be affected by thermal throttling. Ways to prevent it: Maintain a stable room temperature with proper ventilation, use air conditioning in warm areas, keep windows and doors open, or adjust the room fan for better airflow. Ensure PC fans are positioned correctly and there are clear air paths. Use a power supply that expels air outside rather than trapping it inside. Components such as the CPU cooler and GPU (heatsink, heatpipes, fans) are crucial—don’t be surprised if quality is compromised. While it’s not typical, a direct vent can help release hot air from the PC. To determine if throttling occurred, run a demanding application like a game or benchmark and observe the temperature. Check your NVIDIA control panel; if it throttles above 96°C, the current power profile and clock speeds are likely too high. Recording your CPU’s specifications in Task Manager’s Performance tab can help compare actual performance with manufacturer ratings. Listing your Best Buy model number may provide more insight into your hardware.
