Performance is poor at 3090 FE OC.
Processor runs smoothly with an i5 13600k at stable speeds. Motherboard is Asus B760-f, RAM is DDR5 Vengeance 6000Mhz with 64GB. GPU is 3090 FE with a slight performance boost. PSU is NZXT Gold 1000W AIO, case is NZXT Z53 M.2. Monitor supports 1440p at 165Hz. CPU temperature stays between 35-37°C, GPU between 36-38°C. CPU load stays around 50-58°C, GPU load 60-65°C. Latest drivers and Windows 11 Pro are installed. Previously I had a 1080 before this upgrade, achieving 200-300 FPS in ZPS with minimal graphics settings. Now I’m getting 200-280 FPS on the same settings. The discrepancy is noticeable. Task Manager shows under 20% usage for both CPU and GPU. This seems unusual since a 3090 FE should outperform a 1080 without optimization. Playing Zombie Panic Source at lowest possible graphics settings, Nvidia prioritizes performance.
It's a source game, probably with two cores at full capacity. The 3090 seems relaxed since the game isn't very demanding visually. About 14% CPU usage per core suggests two threads are being heavily utilized. In low power mode it's slowing down because it doesn't get enough load. FPS are lower than on the 1080, which had to push harder.
Consider revisiting your 1080 settings if you mainly engage with that game, with a few modern titles as well.
You're right, I focus solely on this game. What can I help you with?
