Performance is extremely poor!
Hello, I'm a 41-year-old software developer currently in rehabilitation after a spinal injury. I spend most of my time in bed, around 24 hours a day, and I’m trying to stay engaged with PC gaming as it brings me joy. I recently purchased a Dell OptiPlex 3020 for $160, which includes an Intel Core i5 at 3.30 GHz, 16 GB DDR3 RAM, and a NVIDIA 1030T graphics card with 2 GB of VRAM. I’m looking for the optimal settings to improve game performance and smoothness.
When playing GTA 5, my character moves slowly and sometimes there’s a noticeable lag in the middle of the screen, making it feel like the game is running faster than my system. I also experience frame rate drops when using the Yuzu emulator for Red Dead Redemption, causing me discomfort. My current setup isn’t handling high frame rates well, especially with camera movement.
I’m on a tight budget and rely mainly on my ISA card, so upgrading isn’t an option right now. I really appreciate any advice or suggestions you can offer to help improve my gaming experience. This is my birthday, and I’d love to get this sorted out!
Your system runs on the most basic configuration for contemporary high-end games. Are your graphics options set to their lowest levels?
It’s tough to see how much can be done with such limited hardware. You’re likely far below the recommended requirements for running Yuzu. Playing Switch games on an actual device would be better than trying to emulate. With your budget, a used Switch Lite might be available for around $100 if you’re careful. You’d need someone to help you get it if you find a good price.
Close to the scam price range. One component usually matches that cost, let alone an entire setup. What graphics configuration and resolution are you using? Is it the DDR4 model of the 1030 or the DDR5 version? Which CPU does it have? Are you running on a hard drive? The 1030 can handle low 50s at 720p if everything else is okay.
Well, the trick would be if the seller referred to Optiplex as a "gaming PC." Buying an office model and fitting a low-end graphics card into it is a typical approach for those aiming to start PC gaming on a budget. I have to admit, spending $160 on an Optiplex 3020—especially if this was a recent purchase—feels a bit odd. That price reflects 4th-generation Intel chips, and newer options are available at lower costs, but the situation is settled.
It seems you're experiencing difficulties with the game. To simplify, the best option is to use a console version of each title for smooth performance.
He isn't running RDR2. Instead, he's using the Switch re-release of the original RDR on the Yuzu emulator.
Playing RDR1 becomes more affordable by using an older used console.
