Hey! I just got a 5800X to boost my Valorant performance from 400+ FPS. After setting it up, I noticed the GPU gets hotter than usual—around 50 to 60 degrees while idling. For cooling, I use a Kraken X63, but I’m not sure if I applied the thermal paste correctly or if something else is causing the issue. When I run Cinebench-23, it hits 90°C and then throttles up to 4.3 GHz on all cores before stopping. I suspect the paste might be the problem, but I’m also wondering if it could be related to a batch of GPUs that didn’t perform well. I’m new to overclocking, so I’m a bit confused. Could anyone help me out? Thanks!

Cpu runs hot deu to it's design, kraken x63 is a mediocre cooler with a small coldplate (which gives issues on the bigger more recent cpu's) and we don't know how it's set up in your case or your case config. Those first 2 are enough to really make the cpu run hot already near the limit of that kraken. So full specs please + how the aio is set up in the case.

Please send back the incorrect CPU if possible, preferably a 5800X3D. Regarding the boost frequency, that was addressed in the previous message.

Ryzens 5000s usually limit all cores to around 4.3-4.5GHz, while lightly threaded tasks let a few threads hit 5.7GHz or higher. My OCed 5900X tops out at 4.55GHz in CB23 with best clocks near 4.9GHz. Temperatures are similar—my chip gets hot to 90°C on a 280mm AIO with -10 to -30V, but I’m using a 180W PPT cooler, which means higher power use because of the 12 cores. Your cooler might not be ideal for this setup.

It's worth noting that the 4.3 all-core boost appears acceptable. The review mentions a maximum of 4.6 all-core with manual overclocking and an air cooler. I believe Jaslion is correct about the cooler you're using, as it leads to thermal throttling. An old thread was helpful for PBO settings.

It seems odd because I found a video showing gameplay with identical specs except for a slight difference in cooling. They’re maintaining stable 400+ FPS on Valorant while I’m only reaching about 240 FPS, but still hitting around 390 FPS. Is the cooler really impacting my performance noticeably?

Are there any intake fans at the base? It might be that PBO tuning involves other components such as a cooler cold plate.

The side fans draw in air, and there are three more fans at the bottom that also take in air. Since I have a vertically mounted GPU, the lower fans should reach the upper ones more effectively.

Have you adjusted the PBO offset to negative with a setting like -15 or -20? Are you aware that a dual-rank RAM setup could boost performance on the 5800X? It would require four RAM sticks, though it’s achievable.
