Hello everyone,
I'm a 3D graphic designer working on a large-scale project involving a 9000m2 supermarket. The files are quite heavy and need to be organized in several parts (refer to the photo).
My current setup includes: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 GAMING OC 24G, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, Corsair Vengeance DDR5 128 GB 6000 MHz CL40.
My computer struggles significantly when opening files, and performance drops so much that it becomes difficult to do anything smoothly.
For professionals in 3D, do you have any tips on optimizing your files for better overall speed?
I considered using proxies, but I can't edit the objects once they're in the proxy. I also thought about compressing the files further, but I'd still end up with the same number of objects to display.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
You mentioned you're a 3D Graphic Designer. To proceed with your project, we need to understand which apps you plan to use with the system. I noticed 3ds Max in the image you shared—what version are you using, and where did you obtain the installer? Have you considered other applications besides 3ds Max?

My current setup:
Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 GAMING OC 24G
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
Corsair Vengeance DDR5 128 GB 6000 MHz CL40

When sharing a troubleshooting thread, it's standard to provide full system details. Please list your specifications in the following format:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
RAM:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:

Also include the age of the PSU and the current BIOS version for your motherboard.

Understand precisely the memory consumption when opening files, even with 128GB of RAM available.
Check the task manager to see usage details.
Could it be due to opening too many files simultaneously?
Also consider the SSD capacity and remaining free space.

Yes, it's feasible, though the challenge lies in rebuilding the entire store by opening all files and reassembling them.

The SSD usage appears normal as there is still ample free space available.
How much RAM was consumed while running 3DS MAX? Please refer to the attached image.
If too many files were opened and memory usage increased significantly, Windows may switch to the SSD to maintain performance, which could slow down the system.
For systems requiring more than 128GB of memory, upgrading to a 256/512GB workstation might be necessary rather than a desktop PC.

I started with the first file on the list—it matched the correct size and there was no memory overload. The software ran smoothly, nothing to worry about.
The issue arises when I have to include the 14 others; the final file surpasses 8GB and becomes unmanageable.
I don't really believe it's a memory problem after all. But perhaps I'm mistaken.

After loading the 8GB file, your PC operates with just 14% of its memory in use, and the CPU isn’t under strain. Yet you still notice delays and a sense of being overwhelmed.

what is the purpose of using the ST2000DM008? how many files are processed simultaneously? if you're a professional, why would you need a consumer-level pc?
