Performance falls short of expectations in GTA V
Performance falls short of expectations in GTA V
Hey everyone, I was trying to solve this myself but it seemed tricky. My frame rate was much lower than expected—only 40fps max. I thought my i3-4150 might be limiting the GPU performance, since I could switch between 720p low and 1080p high without a big change in FPS. When I played on my friend’s PC with an i5-2400, he got 65+ fps (about 80 on average). That gave me enough proof. After that, I upgraded to an i5-4460 CPU, but my FPS still hovered around 50 or so (around 55 on average). I’ve got the newest AMD drivers, the CPU is at full speed, temperatures are normal, and usage stays high at 97%. Still, performance doesn’t improve much. My friend’s system has better RAM (8GB vs 6GB) and a faster SSD, but his CPU is weaker. It seems like RAM might be the main bottleneck, or maybe the GPU isn’t handling the load well enough. I’m not sure what to fix—any tips would help!
Confirm your configuration is identical. EDIT: Restore thermal paste and clean your graphics card.
What graphics card are you using? It's possible I missed it. Consider upgrading your RAM to a full set or opt for a new 4GB stick if you have one, especially if your motherboard supports 32GB and has four slots—then choose a 4x2 1600 or 1866MHz option.
Not a slow point. Might involve various factors like settings, active programs, operating system, memory, etc.
The sliders and choices in the advanced graphics section are disabled, causing significant slowdowns.
I actually provided him with 4GB of my RAM since during testing he only had 2x2GB, went to his place and adjusted all the configurations. The CPU temperature is normal. The paste applied was even, I used MX-2 by default, and the GPU looks clean as possible. (It's also running well.) My GPU model is HD7950 (my signature). My motherboard is mITX. The RAM speed difference would make a huge difference (his RAM is at 1066MHz). I’ll get a 4GB stick as soon as possible to check if that’s the problem.
The configurations I used on both devices are: nearly everything set to normal, the three sliders (pedestrian variety and two others) at MAX, I won’t reduce them since they worked well on his machine—shadows for AMD CHS, AF at 16x, FXAA off, MSAA off, tessellation high, and all advanced graphics disabled. These exact settings were set on both systems. (I chose them myself because that’s what I need.) He has a 1080p display just like me. The main difference in my arrangement is a slight improvement but with 2GB less RAM.
