Currently running on a 7800XT PowerColor, it's drawing about 38 watts with minimal processing activity. Is this typical for your region? Please share the specs if you need further advice.

It appears a standard AMD graphics card paired with a high-refresh-rate screen works fine. I appreciate AMD products, but if power consumption is a concern, switching to a Nvidia might be better.

That sounds frustrating, but I heard some folks reported around 8 to 12 watts while idling—did they have a reliable source?

They might be using another monitor, background, or measurement tool. Running Wallpaper Engine can be quite demanding on the system.

You can monitor which applications consume the GPU and attempt to reduce their usage or power consumption. You may also adjust the GPU's clock speed and other settings, potentially decreasing idle power usage. Are your drivers current?
