Performance Evaluation Project
Hey there, looking to set up your first desktop soon for video editing and some 3D animation. You also want to play games on it, so you're aiming for a balanced setup. I'm interested in seeing how your system performs in both tasks, not just CPU or GPU scores. I don’t want to focus only on benchmarks for graphics cards—what about free tools that work well for both gaming and editing? Also, I’d like to know the basics of benchmarking: what’s the difference between a benchmark and a stress test, and how do they actually work? Thanks for your help!
I’m not familiar with specific editing or 3D rendering benchmarks, but I’m sure some exist. There are several reliable free options available, such as the Valley benchmark for GPUs. Firestrike is another strong choice for overall gaming performance, though it’s not free and can be purchased cheaply on Steam during sales. Aida 64 is also a solid option, though it isn’t free either. These are the ones that come to mind. A benchmark serves as a way to evaluate your hardware’s performance on a particular task, much like an exam. The outcome gives insight into how your system is doing and allows for easier comparison with other configurations.
A stress test, on the other hand, focuses on assessing system stability by pushing it to its limits, regardless of its capabilities. It’s a different approach—more about endurance than precision.

@ Nup Thanks a lot! i will try those out once i have my build. is it normal to be so excited? the last week felt like a MONTH!!! i have 2 more weeks until i can order my parts. would you say i should do both? stress test and benchmark? are there stress test aplications? background is i only work with stronger pcs at work. i took it as a challenge to build a pc thats better. i know my pc will be betterbut i would like to know by how much. i would install the aplications on both... and since the hardware is completely different and i am not planing on buying a quadro it would be hard to compare when it comes to gpu cpu benchmark. i would like to know by how much more efficient my pc would be when for example animating a scene in 3d. or adding tons of effects on a clip. or running a sequence with 9 4k clips in multicam (haha i wish i had something to film in 4k  )
