Performance drops significantly once you move away from Intel.
I've moved my Intel 12700K to a 4090 and upgraded the board and PSU to a 9950X3D and Asus Rog Strix X870-A Gaming Wi-Fi. Performance dropped noticeably, around 20-30 FPS less. My controller used to run smoothly in the '90s, now it feels like mid-50s. No idea what to focus on after spending two decades with Intel. Thanks!
Verified if you're running the 3D CCD during gameplay. Also, confirm the X3D chipset drivers are installed.
I chose the 9950X3D because it includes a 3D V-Cache on one of its CCDs, which is crucial for gaming performance. It’s important to use the correct model for that purpose.
This gives solid overall tips for the 9950X3D. Even if the non-X3D CCD isn't just 60% slower than the 12700K in a GPU-heavy game, there might be other factors at play. OP, could you share what driver reinstallation process you used when moving platforms?
Have you restored Windows using the latest parts? Have all necessary drivers been installed?
I'll review the BIOS options beginning with XMP, Direct Access Memory, Resizable Bar, and slot configurations. I'll install the latest chipset drivers by hand. It's quite straightforward... Ensure the RAM slots are correct—most use the standard 2nd and 4th, though a few require 1st and 3rd for optimal performance. I haven't encountered an X3D chip before, so I lack experience with ccd scheduling troubleshooting, but that could be a topic to explore further... Even if it doesn't work well, you should still be running a 12700k smoothly.
